About

The Men’s Healing Retreat

Every emotion that we have ever experienced that is not expressed is stored in the body. We do not heal the past by dwelling there; we heal the past by living fully in the present. Come heal from the past, live fully in the present and have an experience that will change your life forever.

Sharing my heart has changed my life.

That weekend I spent with those men sharing my heart has changed my life!  Thank you Shelly and David and the other men that may not have any idea how valuable they were to me that weekend.  It changed me.  I now know I am not a failure, I’m human.  We all make mistakes, some bigger than others.  I am now very much an active member in society, but I also know that if I choose to stay in the darkness of blame and guilt I would have continued to stay stuck. – Fred K.

The retreats are a critical missing piece to my recovery.

“These retreats added a critical missing piece to my recovery and helped transform me.  I was unaware how much rage, grief, and trauma were stored in my body and mind until it came out through this process.  The first retreat was like an exorcism, releasing past demons.  The five retreats since then have purged poison from my mind and heart.  I feel lighter, happier, and my recovery made a quantum leap forward from the retreats. I have developed more compassion and empathy toward others in everyday life, plus made friends/brothers in recovery for a lifetime.  The safe environment let me drop boundaries and release emotions blocked for decades.  12-step meetings, therapy, and step work are great, but these retreats get to places inside me that nothing else can.” – Neal

I went to my first retreat in 2012 because I was broken-hearted and unable to be a productive person in society.  I was blaming myself for all the failures in my life.  I felt I had so many failures along my journey in life including battles with alcohol, losing jobs, no money, etc. I had an affair and left my wife and three children.  The failures seemed to be mounting everywhere.  I went on the retreat and opened myself to eleven strangers; men I had never met before and told my story.  And they sat there, and they listened and watched a grown man cry with sorrow and grief for his mistakes.  They listened, and they didn’t judge me at all.  I could feel the love in that room that day and it was important for me to be able to talk about these so-called failures, but I don’t call it that today.

FAQ

How many people attend each retreat?

Each retreat is limited to 13 participants (ages 21+) in order to create the close, intimate environment needed.

How much is the registration fee? Are there discounts available?

The general registration fee for each retreat weekend is $1099 and includes all workshops, housing, and meals. We are currently offering a special rate of $1,075 per attendee for single occupancy and $875 for double occupancy. Registrants pay $275 deposit and the balance by cash or check.

Because the retreat operates at a break-even basis, additional discounts are not available. Due to the generousity of our past attendees, a limited number of small scholarships may be available.

Are you affiliated with any other programs?

No. Men’s Healing Retreat is not affiliated with other programs or facilities.

There are assorted treatment facilities in our region and many facilities do refer their clients to us. We appreciate their support.

What does the retreat schedule look like?

Each retreat has a different schedule. You must arrive at the retreat center between 3 and 5 p.m. on Thursday and can plan on leaving on Sunday around 2 p.m.  It should be noted that many retreat participants take an “extra day” in Philadelphia on Sunday and return home on Monday. This allows time for sightseeing and personal reflection before returning to their day-to-day life and family relationships.

Plan on attending fellowship meals, 12-step meetings, and meditation activities.

What should I wear?

Some attendees are triggered by revealing clothing, so please dress appropriately. The retreat is a casual environment. Weather in West Chester in October ranges between 40 and 70 degrees Fahrenheit.

I have special dietary needs. What should I do?

We may be able to accommodate certain dietary needs. Please contact Michael before registering at 215-805-5240. If you plan on providing your own meals, definitely let us know so we can see if we can provide a credit/discount.
